Phillip “Philly” Duong – Hawaii

Phillip Duong, Director and Choreographer of Epica Latin Dance Company, is one of Hawaii’s young and promising latin dance performer and instructor. In 2011, Phillip and his partner Kimberly became Hawaii’s youngest Salsa Champions and will be competing at the World Latin Dance Cup. Learning salsa straight from high school and continuing his training in the mainland with many renowned instructors, Phillip has continued to display his unique talents to all spectrums of arts and entertainment in Hawaii.

He continues to wow audiences with exciting and innovative dance shows with his dance partner Kimberly. Also trained in hip hop and modern dance, he has been known around the scene for his sharp and defined body movement mixed with his gentle lead and big smile. He has taught at all of the major congresses in Hawaii and is given praise for his energy, charisma, and break-down of technique during his workshops. Phillip hopes to leave a lasting impression on the Hawaii latin dance scene before pursuing major markets internationally. He currently also choreographs and performs with Dancers Unlimited and is a scholarship recipient of Dancers Unlimited’s prestigious New York City training tour.

Phillip and Kimberly Couple Profile

As a performance couple, Phillip and Kimberly have quickly become one of Hawaii’s big latin dance acts, winning the title of 2011 Hawaii Salsa Champions at the Summer Salsa in Paradise, earning them the right to represent Hawaii in the World Latin Dance Cup in Las Vegas this December in the Professional Salsa On 2 Division.

After a year as dance partners, Phillip Duong and Kimberly Tordjman founded Epica Latin Dance Company in 2011 with the motto, “Be epic.” Epica embodies their unique and exciting performance style with multiple group reportoirs and sizzling costumes for audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Combining prior training in mambo, ballet, hip hop, modern dance and ballroom, Phillip and Kimberly have blended their talents to put on fantastic latin dance pieces on stages throughout Hawaii, popularizing Latin dance through performance, training, and education.
