Willy Calderon


Willy Calderon is a professional recording and touring musician & producer. He is CEO of The Master Plan (music label) and Chief Production Manager & producer at IO7 Recording studio.

William Rafael Calderon Jr was born on December 22, 1989 in Cartagena, Colombia. Willy was born into a musical family which migrated to Los Angeles, California being only months old, with his mother, Jeanine Rosales.

Studying the art of music and sounds since infancy, he gradually ascended into professional playing at 13 years of age. Calderon Is most commonly known as a percussionist, although he is also avid in piano, bass, music production and engineering.

Willy Calderon has performed and traveled the world with world-class Latin and Pop bands such as Grupo Niche, Sublime (w Rome), Guayacán Orquesta, Earth, Wind & Fire, Sheila E, Luis Conte (Phil Collins,) Fruko y Sus Tesos, Silvestre Dangond and most recently, Bruno Mars.

In January of 2012, Calderon founded The Master Plan, which has succeeded to produce quality music and stunning social hype, making TMP one of the top indie labels social music scenes today.

Willy Calderon remains active in the music industry, performing, producing and scoring. Also, landing an edit team gig for movie score genius, Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy) in the final installment of the Batman trilogy “The Dark Knight Rises.”

March 2014 | Signs Artist endorsement deal with Gon Bops percussion | Percussionist

Calderon is currently participating on an upcoming Pirates Of The Caribbean soundtrack due 2017.

In July of 2013, Calderon’s mother passes away. The event led to Calderon’s latest venture, #thenamecampaign, where the idea is to use the name you were given for good and to inspire- in honor of his mother. His “Willy Calderon” hat has been the mascot for the campaign and has graced photos with celebrities, children and music lovers alike, spreading the power of unity and inspiration to all. This talented, young musical genius has proven that perseverance is key and humilty opens all doors. He is an inspiration to many, the future of a generation in music and is one the leading percussionists in the music industry today. He is only 25.

Our Story

It started as an idea between friends, bringing a congress to Texas where at the time Texas had no active congress in the entire state. A congress that would showcase Texas Salsa talent, bring awareness of salsa to the community and raise money for scholarships. Together David Melendez and Ruby Rivera worked hard and in January 2004, the Texas Salsa Congress was born.
