Born and raised in Chicago, IL Sekou’s childhood was filled with diversity and culture. Performing and competing as a classical Flutist for 12 yrs, music has always played an important part of Sekou’s life. Through High School and College, Sekou danced and performed with several dance groups of many different genres. First introduce to Salsa/Mambo in his early years of college “Cumbia style”, Sekou feel in love with the music none as “Salsa”. It wasn’t long before he would take his background in Jazz/hip-hop and classical training as a Flutist/composer and begin to breakdown the dance and music in its many aspects. Sekou has developed his unique style of salsa/mambo dancing. Dancers and instructor around the world know of and respect Sekou's dance style and artistry. His group Descarga Caribe Dance Company is known for the seamless choreographies, synchronization and amazing body movement.

Sekou’s unique style of Salsa/Mambo, rich with Afro-Cuban essence and laced with techniques from many genres of dance, has earned Sekou broad recognition in the United States and World-wide. Sekou made his Off-Broadway debut in the Celia the Musical, Directorial Debut June 2009: Viva la Salsa. In addition Sekou has instructed and performed at Salsa Congresses all over North America, Europe and Asia. Also he has conducted Master Classes in New York, Chicago, LA, Seoul, Tokyo, San Diego, Seattle, Beijing, Singapore, New Orleans, Miami, Toronto, Dallas, Boston, Poland, Mexico City, Mexico, Rome, Italy, etc
